There are a couple of
things that pilots wishing to fly in to White Gum Farm should know to make things easy for everyone.
We have just spent considerable time grading runway 14-32
(in front of the hangars) so consequently the eastern edge of the runway
is a tad soft with a bit of a drop off. This should not present any
problems as long as you remember this when turning the aircraft.
The runway is now hard sand and considerably wider and
flatter.
The aircraft parking area this year is on the NW side
of runway 14/32. There is only one lane of entry into this parking area
and that is opposite Hanger#1 and is marked with white painted tyres and
a sign-'air craft parking'.
Sounds complicated but when you have undulating
ground, space for aircraft is limited.
If in doubt have a close look at
WGF Runways pdf
or call me 0419942645.
Landing on runway 32 is preferred unless the wind is
definitely favoring 14. We would prefer the landings on 32 to keep a
safe distance from the public in front of the hangars.
If there is no active runway at the time of your
arrival then of course you can choose any runway and may wish to use the
runways 17/35 or 10/28 in the paddock adjoining the farm and park at the
NW end of runway 10/28. It is a short walk to the hangars from there.
I was shown a great weather forecasting site for our
area here-- http://www.waga.org.au/rasp/ so far it has proven itself quite well.
Camping areas are available, bring a tent and a swag.
So, enjoy the fly-in, enjoy the evenings entertainment
and all have a safe time in the air.
